Wii Weather Channel Brings Real-Time Weather To Games

When the Wii’s Weather Channel debuted this week, it was soundly mocked by a certain tiny someone. Only semi-useless, said the Fruit Brute? Show me the “semi,” I snapped back, and was severely pimp-slapped for opening my whore mouth during Quiet Time.
Turns out, my whore mouth and its shameful back-talk may have been premature. Show me the “semi,” I asked. Here it is: in addition to being a cute but otherwise totally impractical feature, the Wii Weather Channel includes an Easter Egg of sorts; certain games (like Madden, but not Zelda) use your local weather data to inform the game environment. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about barreling across yard lines during the next global warming climate disaster, but it’s a cool idea.
I suppose that time will tell if this type of interactivity will enhance the Wii experience, or if it’s just a hackneyed gimmick. For that matter, I’m still sitting the fence about the whole Mii thing, although I know everyone seems to love it…whatever it is.

I like the Weather Channel. It’s not something that I’d use often, but it’s kinda cool to check out. I like the globe format. Using it in games could be interesting.
If you want something useless, look at the internet browser. That thing is pointless.
So when there are clouds overhead and it’s raining cats and dogs, instead of running around a sunshiny day in my virtual reality, my heroes clothed will be drenched and he will make a sad face, too? Where is the fun in that?
