80s Atari Ad Entertains, Confuses
Oh, how I miss the 80s, AKA The Decade Of My Youth. It was a time of unbridled hedonism, not to mention total disregard for the concept of political correctivity, which gave birth to some of the weirdest and most fantasically entertaining cultural movements around. Case in point: Atari actually made this FUBAR’d advertisement for their console’s now classic Centipede in 1982. Yeah, it’s weird… and maybe a little bit disturbing… but it’s certainly not as messed up as that damn baby doll commercial for the PS3.

the theme music sounds remarkably similar to “the phantom of the opera”!
I don’t know what would be scarier:
~Killer centipedes invading Earth.
~Going to bed with a handsome husband, and then waking up with him as a killer centipede.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm, tough one…
That was trippy.
PS3 baby doll commercial isn’t as freaky as this:

i call the “phantom” similarities and raise you a “videodrome”...
awesome.
awesome to the max.
Dude, that stock footage was freading brilliant.
Ha ha ha, I remembered the music before I even hit play, but I had forgotten what a Phantom ripoff it was…. except Phantom didn’t open in London till 4 years later! If Wikipedia can be believed, Webber didn’t even conceive of doing Phantom until 1984.
The synth arrangement and everything are so similar…. could it actually be that Webber unconsciously ripped off an Atari commercial he’d seen years earlier?

Exactly…and it seams perfectly normal…nothing weird about it
Good god. Freaks me out. And the music I love. I presume Laura Brannigan recorded it with lyrics?
