Bioshock: Does Not Play Well With Others

Taking a note from the Oblivion playbook, it seems that Irrational Games' upcoming Bioshock won't have a multiplayer mode. While a number of people seem to be surprised by this, I can't say that I am.
While Bioshock appears to be a FPS on the surface, it smacked of gameplay which didn't really fit that genre because the game's anything but fast-paced. Instead, Bioshock features an RPG character-development system and an overall lack of ammunition that will have players sneaking around and conserving their weaponry much more than most shooters would require someone to. Typically, multiplayer modes are reserved for titles which feature faster play and much more amunition around than what I got to see on display at E3. Besides, I tend to suck when I go up against other FPS players.
As a result, I am neither surprised nor disappointed by the announcement, but I'm sure some people will be.
Bioshock to be single player only [Engadget]

Yay! I was only mildly interested in this because I assumed they'd put most of their energy into the again-assumed horribly-boring-to-me multiplayer FPS mode.
I'm thrilled to hear there won't be one.
Was fairly obviously gonna be the case as far as I was concerned. It seems to be the Spiritual sucessor to System Shock and that was always focused around a single player experience. Though there was a patch for SS2 later on that gave it Co-Op, it took away some of the atmosphere. Not having anyone to watch your back is part of the experience :)
I second that "Yay!" We often view the single-player experience as part of a total package, but for a true "single player game" like SystemShock2 or Silent Hill, multiplayer features can feel shoddy and drag down the focus on single-player-excellence.
Yay solipsism!
