Call For Weekend Writers!

Really, I want you...

Do you love GayGamer and wish you could contribute, if only you didn’t have to earn money to live? Do you have a deep love of gaming and the desire to express your opinions? Do you drool at the thought of being publicly ridiculed, adored and/or disgraced for those opinions? Do you fancy the notion of having trillions and trillions of internets reading your every word?

What’s that? Yes, you say? Then have I got the solution for you:

Become a weekend writer here at GayGamer!

We’re issuing an open call for like-minded men, women, boys, girls, pre-ops, post-ops, couldn’t-ops and whatsits with the ability to cobble a few words together into sentences. So step on up.

We’re looking for at least two writers to help plump up our weekend content – this means we’re reaching out to those of you who are interested in contributing four posts a day on both Saturdays and Sundays.

Ironically, our site gets some of its heaviest traffic on the weekends – when our content is, in fact, lighter than usual. So this is a perfect opportunity to showcase your writing, your perspective, your humor, your crabbiness, your you!

If you think you might fit the bill, please send me an email at tinydancer@gaygamer.net with at least two samples of your writing, a few words about yourself and your gaming interests, etc. We’ve got a lot of great stuff in the works for 2007 and now is the perfect time to hop on board!

And if you’ve submitted to us before, please do so again! Much was lost last year during the Great Bitchslap Wars, when Toots and I laid siege to each other for weeks and Mikey ruled briefly as Lord Regent. So please resubmit…we know who you are!

Like every position here at GayGamer, we can pay you only with kindness, compliments, and a prominent position in a great community to which you already belong; but help us make GayGamer bigger, better, and more popular and who knows what filthy stinking riches the future will bring?

Again: Weekend writers wanted! Four fabulous posts a day during highly visible time slots! You know you want to do it!

Couple of questions. I don’t really have many samples in terms of humor writing, but I did work on a newspaper for a year and a half and perhaps some of those articles are still online somewhere.

Also what sort of process is there in terms of posting things, for example, is there someone we run the post by first? How knowledgeable of HTML does one have to be? I’m very interested in helping out and will be emailing you but I thought a few others might have some of the same questions.

As far as writing samples go, give us whatever you think best. It doesn’t have to be something you’d read on GayGamer, just something that shows us what you’re like as a writer. You can also scan the headlines or pick a topic that interests you and write a mock-up post or two, if you’d like to give us something more GayGamer-specific.

You don’t need to be David Sedaris, either – decent writing skills, your gaming experience, and a little dash of gayness seem to do just fine. :-D

In terms of the process of posting, it’s browser-based and very simple. A short walkthrough was all any of us needed to get up and running, by and large. I couldn’t code my way out of a paper bag!

Hmmmm… sounds interesting. Not sure if I could do 8 posts a weekend though, as I usually work on Saturday and Sunday. But what the hey. Always wanted to try my hand at game blogging.

Essex said:

same here Mudd, that’s the only reason I’m a bit hesitant. I’ve spent a few moments thinking of things I might post and have come up with four so far, but that’s only one day of work :D

I know 8 posts a weekend may sound intimidating, but it’s really not so scary. Posts fly out of you much more quickly than you’d think, and the process soon becomes second-nature. And fun.

Also, there are some super-secret GayGamer tricks that we’ll let you in on (such as a stoopid long list of feeds) that make finding post ideas even easier.

When might the deadline be for the sample submissions? I’d like to give this a go, but I’m stuck at work for a bit tonight, and well, there’s a new Office on at 8:30. I gotta support Team Karen. :/

Also, how is the selection process going to be handled? Ie, how many people are going to be selected etc.

argh! i so want to do this… damn you grad school!

Deadline: we don’t really have a formal process, so there’s no formal deadline. Clearly, the sooner you send stuff in the longer we have to look at it, but if you want to take your time to prepare that’s a good thing, too.

I’ll tentatively say that we’ll be actively looking at submissions for the next week, but even so – if you want to write with us, send me your junk! There’s every chance in the world we’ll need more word-monkeys eventually. Timsy’s only 8 years old, you know, and his little fingers won’t last forever…

At the moment, I’d love to find two (2) writers who can post four (4) times a day on Saturday and again on Sunday. If you’re interested but have limits on how much you can contribute, please don’t let that stop you from sending us your stuff. There are many ways that could still be useful – if we want to have guest writers, for instance, part-time contributors, or other possible reader-generated content.

Wow, long answer. /scene.

Hmmm, it sounds like an interesting and challenging part-time writing gig. Though I have not done any real journalistic work for years, I am quite the browser-linker, which I blame solely on my habitual procrastination.

Honestly, only information gathering (which REALLY sounds a lot better than “procrastination induced browsing and relinking”) and my casual hardcore gaming experience would qualify me scarcely qualify me. Nowadays I’m more of a fiction writer and/or avid whiner/blogger than a journalist.

Then again… I mean, if Florian Eckhart (Who is actually Wired.com’s John Brownlee) can half-ass his way to Kotaku (which, admittedly, is gaming blog of questionable reputation), I’m sure I do a decent job… I think.

Perhaps I’ll see if I can find some recent article, respin and relink it, and submit it with a gaygamer angle.

LOL~!!! (^-^ )

I want to do this so… but when would I have the time? Is it possible that I could submit the 8 articles throughout the week to have them automatically updated on weekends? I’m often not home on weekends and would have to have them update automatically.
