Enchanted Arms' Gay Makoto In Japanese, On PS3
Love him, hate him, or have no idea who he is, Enchanted Arms songbird Makoto is one of the few openly gay characters out there in gaming land. For months I’ve been hearing that Makoto’s Japanese dialogue is a whole order of magnitude less cartoonishly stereotypical than the English track. Too lazy to see for myself, new footage of Makoto and Enchanted Arms running on the PS3 has proffered the pudding, although I can’t say I heard much proof that Makoto’s just a regular gay guy when he’s speaking Japanese.
He still sounds pretty over-the-top to me, which I know has ruffled some feathers. Personally I find it silly but not worth getting my panties in a bunch (also, I still can’t find my panties…), although it must be taken into account that this is the conversation in which Makoto brags about the Love Lunch he’s made for his dream guy. (That would be the plate-sized pink heart on the table in the background. Yeah.)
It’s hard to break the mold when you’re screeching about Pink Pickles.

Don’t forget the part about the “cream sauce”.
Yeah… hard to see how progressive this is when one of the two uses “atashi” to refer to himself. The way they talk (from the topic of discussion to their inflection) feels ripped from the worst parts of shoujo manga.
Which one’s the gay one?
I haven’t gotten a 360 yet, so I don’t know his American voice, (though I can imagine what camp stereotyping horror it is) but his Japanese voice is great. I don’t find it camp in the slightest. Just a regular Japanese guy’s voice.
It’s even miles ahead in quality over the main character’s voice.
Makoto’s voice sounds fine to me, but man, what is UP with the first guy in the beginning on this clip?
Yeah seems Makoto may sound better in JP but Atsuma sounds much worst. I mean other then Yuki(still haven’t heard in JP), I find the voices in english to be much better all around excluding some random npc that has one line.
