Fantastic Flash: The Distraction Game

Distraction.jpg

The creators of The Distraction Game hit the nail on the head with this one. Most games serve as simple distractions in our daily life. This one is no exception. The creative construct centers around fighting distractions within the game, similar to the jump rope level in Rayman Raving Rabbids, where the rabbids jump out in front of Rayman as he’s skipping rope. In this game you play a little yellow bird flying through a missile-riddled course, trying to catch all the fruit along the way. The real threat are the distractions that jump out of all sides of the screen to impede your progress. All of the distractions are adorable, drawn in a simple pen-and-paper style. They jump out from any direction to stretch and distort your playing field. Be careful not to touch the edge of the screen, or it’s game over man.

Enjoy this simple game of distraction, it’s an effective example of playing in an out of the boundaries of the playing field. In theatrical terms this would be an example of breaking the fourth wall to connect with the audience. Somewhere in the great beyond, Bertolt Brecht is smiling gently.
