Final Fantasy Meets Gears Of War?

Japanese RPG behemoth, Square-Enix has announced that they're going to shift over to using the Unreal Engine 3 created by Epic Games (most recently put to use in the superlative Gears of War). Previous Square-Enix titles have used the company's own Snow graphics engine, recently used in demonstrations of the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII.
"The complexity of next-generation game systems featuring HD graphics and multicore parallel processing poses a number of technological challenges to our game development," commented Taku Murata, general manager of research and development at Square Enix."We can expedite our game development process significantly while allowing extra time and resources to be spent on game design and mechanics by establishing an effective technology platform. We're excited to be partnering with Epic Games in such an important area," he added.
While this sounds great on paper, we need to consider what this could possibly mean: more games in a shorter time-span from Square-Enix could be a very good thing, or it could be absolutely terrible. If we're talking about more games like Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, and Kingdom Hearts, then that would be awesome. If, however, we're talking about pieces of drek like Dirge of Cerberus, Drakengard, and Unlimited Saga, then that would be not so awesome.

Well, they better make a hell of a game with FF-XIII or SE will die for me. Im not gonna spend $600 for a PS3 only to play another Dirge of Cerberus!
Well, they may of done a better job on Dirge of Cerberus if they used an engine and dev kit made for shooters in the first place.
Drakengard a piece of drek?
Shows how much your taste in games is worth.
Drakengard is a piece of drek?
Yeah, that shows what your taste in games is worth.
