GameStop Plans To Takeover The World

Forum rumors should never be taken that seriously. The forum poster is wont to overreaction, hyperbole, and grammatical corrections. But some rumors have more validity than others, and this one has the ring of truth to it.

GameStop, which also has bought out rights to EB Games, FuncoLand, and Software Etc., has nearly 5,000 stores nationwide altogether. Aside from consuming all of my favorite video game haunts from youth, the rumor has started that it will be buying out Rhino Used Video Games, which has fewer than 100 locations, and none on the west coast. Rumored to take effect in less than two weeks, it seems like a small investment, but think about the cafe buying frenzy Starbucks started in the late 90s.

Forgive me for not being too upset. My brother used to work at a Funcoland and is now a manager of a GameStop store, and without his help I would never have received my beautiful, shiny white Wii and my beloved Twilight Princess this week. So if this can improve my connections to video game retailers and my brother continues to climb the corporate ladder, I say “Manifest Destiny,” dear GameStop.

Heh heres another one from a gamestop semi-manager. They havent said anything to us yet, but its possible. The company is very ambitious, they half jokingly said they’d love to go as far as absorbing other franchising. I mean we are in games (EB games and gamestop) and we have bookstores (Barnes and Nobles) So why not go farther?

Gamestop makes me want to PUKE! That’s putting it blunt. The store is obnoxious with very little morales. When given a choice, I always buy from any other source. Trust me – like all the big franchises…it will see its day when they get one upped by someone else.

That is one thing i hate hearing…Some of the stores and managers are total crap with horr hate it. I take pride in my job and in my store and in my company, and it sickens me that there are managers like that out there. I strive to be the best i can, and I never compromise myself for anything.

I, for one, would like to see a better retailer 1-up Gamestop/EB. they claim to be be a video game store, but for most stores in my area to get more than 4 copies of a new release, is simply asking too much. other practices, like letting clerks “borrow” games from the store, and then turnaround and sell that as a “new” copy? (funny, since when did Final Fantasy V come with a file already on it?) the higher ups of corporate forcing cashiers to pester us repeatedly for pre-orders or a replacement plan. it’s not the counter jocky’s fault that the corporation sucks, but they are the ones who receive a majority of the customer’s ire.

further, I find it unethical the manner in which you obtained your Wii. it’s fine and dandy that you have someone to set one aside for you while the person who lined up outside in often inclement weather, who should have gotten that Wii, was cheated of it.

i did wait outside in a line at my local eb before contacting my bro.

the fact of the matter is that employees at these stores are putting them aside for themselves and their friends all the time. i didn’t get mine in the aforementioned line because they had done the same. that’s just how it goes.

aw, don’t be jealous!

Luckly, I haven’t had any problems with Gamestop lately, minus them not taking back Star Trek: Legacy, but we forced them to do that, other then that, I haven’t had to much trouble with GameStop, but yeah, they seem like the Starbucks or Microsoft of Video Games.

I bought my Wii, and one for my nieces, on ebay. Some people are willing to put themselves through an ordeal, some people are willing to use family connections, and some people are willing to put up a few extra bucks. (No, I’m not one of the impulsive people who paid $500 for a Wii.)

I think that until all scarce goods are sold via lottery, they’re all valid means of getting what you want.

I have no need to be jealous, I stood (well, sat, rather) in line 5 hours and got mine at a midnight launch.

I just think that managers setting aside Wiis for their own personal reasons are unethical period.
