Actually the Gay Gamer of the Month has been a highly requested addition to the site. Silver R. Wolfe was among our earliest readers. I am not surprised that Fruit Brute chose to feature him first. RazorDog is correct in saying the idea helps to build a sense of community. Judging from the incredible variety of gay gamers who have posted pics of themselves on the forum and the overwhelming response of applicants to be featured, it is only a matter of time until you see someone whom you find attractive. In the meantime, please try to exercise a little tact and respect for others.

I too have to disagree with Jovan about this. The site is called GayGamer, so it would probably make sense to actually show who we truely are out there. And what I mean by who we are, its not "guys with shirts off and sexy haircuts and tans" as you so describe. If that is what you want to see, then go buy a mag.

i don't mean to offend...but it seems odd to me that this site doesn't even flinch at the whole furry issue...like playing video games and being gay somehow naturally combines into banging cartoon foxes? i mean, more power to you guys, who am i to say what you should want to bone...but am i the only one who is a little creeped out by furries?
Pardon, I know you didn't mean to offend but I took some offense to it. There are a large amount of furries that fall into the category you've... mentioned, Davem, but there are the handfuls (pawfuls) that don't.
It's not like we're doing anything wrong by being here. I'm a part of the gay community as much as I am a part of the furry community, that's all it really comes down to.

Yeah furries are totally appalling. And please don't talk about the "furry community." The idea that there is such a thing is very disheartening. Unless it exists on the internet, in which case it isn't a "community" as much as a "message board."

I don't usually chime in on these things, but in this case, I feel like I must.
I would like to remind those of you with nothing to hand out but insults, that this is a community. It was community built to be accepting of a group of people that is largely unaccepted in the gaming world. We all come here because we want to be part of that community. I have striven to make this a place where EVERYONE can come and be comfortable. To openly insult one of our own just because they happen to be into something you don't care for or don't happen to meet up to your stringent standards for looks or personality goes against the whole reason we are all here in the first place.
The reason Silver was chosen first is actually very simple. He was the first one to get his application in. I decided against handpicking the entries because I felt it would show some sort of favoritism on our part. I want to show gay gamers for who they are. All shapes sizes and colors and personalities.So, the gay gamer entries will be posted in the order that they were received.
I certainly hope that future entries in to this section don't receive the sort derogatory comments I've read here today. Comments such as these only show an attitude of shallowness and intolerance that is not welcomed here.

The fact that the site contains a gamer of the month with comments underneath by pervy stereotypical gay men is just hilarious.
I am waiting for someone to mention, "it's nice to meet other gay men with similar interests" erm gay men straight men, interests are interests and sexuality is irrelevant, you can relate to many hobbies / interests without sexuality being involved.

Jon: demand brought the site to fruition. there wouldn't be a userbase without it. i'd rather talk about games with like-minded people than have to sift through some of the garbage over at gamefaqs. that's just my reasoning, though. i'm sure everyone else has their own.

Unlike some commenters, thanks for being a good sport, Silver. Fruit Brute and I have been discussing how to ensure that this site remains a safe space for everyone. While I don't believe we have any furries on staff, I have no problem with the idea. That members of one minority group discriminate against another seems unadulterated hypocrisy to me. While we promote tolerance here at Gay Gamer, those who are intolerant are quickly shown the door. While on the surface that may in itself smack of intolerance, it is not entirely dissimilar to the principle that hate speech is not protected under freedom of speech. We will be formalizing and posting our non-discrimination policy and standards of conduct to be enforced both here in comments as well as on the forum.
I'm another gay furry gamer, and I'm thrilled that Silver is the first GGotM.
I'm looking forward to the diversity of other GGotMs in the future. I hope everyone can patiently wait for their personal favorite and chime in with positive comments.

saying that furries make you uncomfortable is not hate speech or bashing or even unacceptance. i'm not upset that this feature exists or that this kid was named gamer of the month nor am i ignorant to the fact that furries play video games....but i think if the highlight of your profile is your particular sexual fetish and it's projected into a mainstream forum you should be willing to discuss it...and deal with those who don't understand/find it "cute", etc.
it's like if i was named gay gamer of the month holding a giant pink dildo with a shirt that said SIZE QUEEN...and got mad at people that didn't love me for it. i guess i just think that stuff is irrelevant, but that's how you identify yourself i guess.

Given what is going on in the world today, "furries" is way down at the bottom of the list of things to get upset about, right above "incontinence in fruit flies" and below "service charges for off-peak Ouija board calls."
Silver, you are a handsome fellow. Bully to you for being out, proud and public. Enjoy your games, your fantasies, and also stay involved in the real world. FYI, bit of trivia, Redheads were usually feared in Eastern European folklore, either for their power to slay vampires and werewolves -- or the danger that they'd turn into them, themselves.

The name alone pretty much indicates what we do - create a space for gay gamers and like-minded, gay-friendly gamers.
"Gay Gamer of the Month" is simply not a bewildering feature to find here. It's a relatively simple, fun way to enhance the feeling of community and give interested GayGamers a little treat.
And it's been quite heavily requested.
It is, all in all, a pretty innocuous and minor feature. Anyone who takes the time to write insulting and mean-spirited comments says much more about themselves than anything else. Hiding behind the shield of internet anonymity to be cruel is, at the very least, terribly unattractive in its own right.
If you're not interested in the GGotM feature, by all means don't read it; but taking the time to ruin the fun and to try to hurt the feelings of someone brave, like Silver, who decided not to hind behind that internet anonymity, is rude, cowardly, and unwelcome.
If, however, you want to rant, we have a space for that as well. Seriously. We have a Flame Board in the forums for precisely this purpose: so those of us with controversial or unkind things to say can do so where it's appropriate, and not come off as rabid, petty, and needing to savage others to boost our own self-esteem.
Remember, whether you're talking about gay men, furries, haircuts, body size, sex, gender behavior, eye color, skin color, religion - there's always someone equally willing to say horrible things about you. It's in our best interest to be supportive of each other even when - no, especially when - we don't really want to be supportive or tolerant.
Encouraging prejudice does nothing but encourage prejudice.

My take on the situation:
Gays are discriminated against, for the most part, because some people feel gay sex is perverted. It destroys the moral fabric of the nation. It's unnatural. They destroy families. They can reproduce only by recruitment. Won't someone please think of the children. That sort of thing.
This is, of course, a complete load of bollocks, and not in a good way. Sexual deviation from the norm is not in itself a valid reason for persecution or exclusion - as we above all people should know.
It seems that every argument against the furry community is of much the same type as the arguments against homosexuality - at base, "it creeps me out". If you feel that way, congratulations - now you know how most of the straight people feel about us.
In short, I see no way in which someone can simultaneously protest homophobia and attack furries without being a hypocrite.

There are some pretty spiteful people here. So those of you slamming Silver are non-furries? Gee, congratulations, so your identity and interests lie somewhere else. That doesn't make you special or superior.
Say the gaymer of the month was a transvestite. I don't like travestitism and can't see myself dating one but I wouldn't post under that person's gaymer of the month post saying how he's not my type or how transvestitism creeps me out. I just wouldn't post at all. And you know why? Because my parents raised me with enough damn common courtesy that if I don't have anything positive to say I'm not going to speak at all, not to the person's face or in a public forum at least.
That he happens to be a kid is incidental. That he happens to be furry is incidental. If you don't like how he looks, or you don't like furries, you have the right to your opinions, but keep them to yourself or say them somewhere else. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

This is pretty bad. For anyone that is disgusted by the furry part, you need to take a look at yourselves and realize what you're doing. In case you haven't noticed, gays are controversial, and as such often get oppressed, insulted, and generally made to not feel welcome by some people.
Since you're a community built up around acceptance for this status and each other, it's really (disturbing, disheartening, disgusting, ironically most of the words you use to describe furries) to see you treating others (And especially others in this community, your community) with disrespect, just as many people treat you.
It makes no sense to fight to be accepted in the world as gays and then turn around and treat someone else in exactly the same way you hate being treated.
Bravo to you Wolfe! There are people out there that don't like it that I have sex with a man, but that's not going to stop me.

Furrie is NOT a primary sexuality. Any non-crackpot accredited psychologist would call it a fetish. Simple. A relatively harmless fetish. But a fetish none the less.
If this gayling is a furrie, so be it. Fine, but don't attempt to use the 'don't be hating' bit, and equate furrie fetish with homosexuality, which IS a primary sexuality.
We homosexuals have a beleif that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. Society is coming along and ever increasingly supports this opinion. Awesome.
This has nothing to do with fetishes.
There are other primary sexualities too, such as pederasty. Most of the human race does NOT think this primary sexuality should be accepted.
These issues are separate. The issue of acceptance based upon sexuality really is a misnomer. The LGBT movement has definite boundaries. You can't lump all behavior, all sexual behavior into the same group and stick a fricking rainbow on it.
It really galls me when you have people running the gay flag up the pole when trying to justify or garner acceptance for thier fetishes.
Fetish shmetish, I don't care so long as no one's getting hurt. But don't you dare relate it to homosexuality nor try to hitch a ride acceptability on it's coat tails.
When I signed up for the LGBT movement, I didn't promise I would accept everyones fetishes, nor approve of them. Nor did I say I would accept ANY sexualtiy.

The reason we don't accept pederasty is that pederasts cause lifelong mental trauma to small children - an extremely good reason if ever there was one. I don't see anything similar to that in furry.
My argument was, essentially, that every argument that attacks the furry community that I know of attacks homosexuality as well if you substitute the word "furry" for "gay". When we call those arguments idiotic (as they are), we lose the right to use them against others - regardless of whether what they're doing is fetish or sexuality. And that applies to all fetishes. We say pederasty, bestiality etc. are wrong because of the consent issues, not just because they creep us out.
I wasn't trying to say "The LGBT community and advocacy groups must actively get out there and support the furry cause", and I certainly wasn't trying to say "All LGBTs should appreciate furry porn" - only "LGBT groups shouldn't be attacking others for a harmless fetish". I agree that furry is essentially a fetish. I just don't think that that warrants attacking the people who follow it.
And I still think (as an ex-homophobe) that, at bottom, the reasons people attack sexualities that are foreign to them and the reasons people attack fetishes that are foreign to them are extremely similar.

Wow, congrats, Silver. You've really got the conversation going here. I had no idea people were so obsessed over furries. Honestly, I didn't even know what it meant until we started this site. I find it silly that people are pulling the whole LBGT thing into it since furries can be straight too. Actually, although I don't subscribe to it, the argument could be made that homosexuality is a fetish. Even if it were, what difference would it make? What I like to do in my bedroom of a consensual nature is my business and no one else's. Thanks to Brown v. Texas, the Supreme Court has guaranteed that freedom.
By the way, we have received so many GGotM submissions, we have changed it to Gay Gamer of the Week. Fruit Brute will be making an official announcement, but as you can see, we've already changed the labels.
