Nintendo Ransoms Ocarina For 1200 Points?

louise1.jpg

Japan's February Virtual Console release list contains a biggie - in more ways than one. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, easily the most anticipated N64 Virtual Console title, drops next month in Japan for a whopping 1200 points. Mostly, I'm excited that the ol' Ocarina is hot and moving down the pipeline, but some folks may balk at the (relatively) hefty price tag.

For what it's worth, Nintendo has said all along that their VC prices will scale depending on the original platform - and N64 games top the list with a starting price of 1000 points. So bumping up the price of a legendary game from $10 to $12 isn't exactly budgetary rape; still, many gamers see downloadable titles as a fringe benefit, and may at some point be unwilling to spend much more than pocket change on an older, ported download.

Of course, if any game will work against that gradient, it's Ocarina of Time.

does that include master quest?

No, I don't think it includes Master Quest. $12 for Ocarina is an okay price I guess, $2 more than the usual N64 game. I won't be getting it, though, as I already have it on my Zelda Collector's Edition GC disc.

I already have the Collector's Edition disc too, but if it looks a lot prettier on the Wii I might be tempted to pick up the VC version eventually.

I can't believe I gave in and started playing Twilight Princess before finishing Ocarina of Time. 13% of the way through after 20 hours of play.... yes, I'm that meticulous.

As for Master Quest, isn't it just the same game with randomized, and harder, dungeons? I could start playing that now and still be playing it when I keel over at like age 98 or something.

The dungeons aren't randomized, but they are different and, in general, a bit harder. At least from what I saw watching my brother play all the way through it... I didn't see the point in doing it all again just for the different dungeons myself.
Personally, though, I'm waiting for Majora's Mask on the VC. I never owned that one, and I'd love to play through it.

I already have the Gamecube collector's edition disc, and I've still never beaten that game. I always get about 2 hours into it and just quit. It doesn't hold my interest like every other Zelda game ever made does, sorry, so I doubt I'll be getting the VC version.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
