PS3 Update Fixes PS2 Issues

Yesterday Sony released firmware update 1.5 for the PS3, fixing a major problem, namely the absolute trainwreck visuals and graphical hiccups when playing PS2 and PS1 games in high definition. While it's humiliating for Sony that such a problem didn't get picked up and addressed during testing (at least it should be humiliating), they do seem to have fixed it within a relatively sane window of time - it's been about a month since the last update, which addressed even more basic concerns. Reflecting back on the Xbox 360's incremental improvement over its first year, this PS3 update cools my worries for the system a little bit. Not a lot, but still...baby steps. I downloaded the update and popped in Okami, FFXII, and Dragon Quest VII - they all looked the way they should, although the display is a bit smaller than the actual screen size, thanks to the PS2's rather unfriendly native resolution. But since that means I'm seeing a picture that's closer to the intended pixel map rather than a stretched and degraded one, I'm okay with that; I can understand why others might not be.
What doesn't fill me with hope was Sony's pathological refusal to acknowledge the problem existed before they fixed it. Now, maybe things are moving so fast for Sony that the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing - or, I suppose, that the mouthpiece doesn't know what the brainpan is fixing. But that's a stretch.
Hooray, Sony for fixing the problem. Boo, Sony for denying the problem. Boo, Sony for lying. Boo, Sony for letting there be a problem to fix in the first place. Hooray, being able to play Final Fantasy XII on the PS3 without shrieking in horror.

My vocal cords are incapable of expressing the sounds of glee flowing from within. Now to just be afford to afford the behemoth so I can get a new one (I returned the one I had after having a nervous breakdown trying to rationalize getting it)
And now I can give my PS2 to my bf without feeling like I'm losing my graphics.
