Vista Update (Already?) Improves Game Support

Mere hours after the launch of Windows XP 1.5...I mean Windows Vista, Microsoft has slipped in an update that addressed some compatibility issues with what are now being called "legacy" games. Since Vista is the only way to use DirectX 10 features, and games that use DX10 features aren't coming and/or being updated until later this year, I can only conclude that "legacy" games mean, well, "games." If I'm wrong, please lemme know.
GameSpot has a pretty cool feature that details what DX10 games on Vista will look like, and I must admit, the improvement looks sweet.
It also looks far, far in the future.
With most of Vista's cool features coming in future service packs and updates, it's frustrating to see the most widely-used operating system in the western spiral arm of the galaxy have such a sloppy, piecemeal upgrade. Was taking the time to get everything up and running like Microsoft promised too much to ask? It looks like we'll have to wait for the good stuff anyway, so what's the benefit of, forgive me, "pulling a Sony" and making the product look undesirable and unfinished?
Bah, I've wandered, haven't I? I'm crusty today with all this update brouhaha business. Where was I? Ah, yes: the games that receive improved support from the first of many Windows Vista updates are Age of Empires III, Battlefield 2 Deluxe, Dungeon Siege II, Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna, Fable: The Lost Chapters, Family Feud Online, Flight Simulator X, Lego Star Wars, Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, and Zoo Tycoon 2, plus expansion packs.
Early adopters, check it out.
