Windows Vista Can't Get It Up...For Gaming
OK pirates! Hop to it! Y'all know what needs to be done. ;p Not that I condone piracy or anything, but as you go forth and attempt to get your 'complimentary' copies of Windows Vista, keep the above song in your head. As for those of you legitimately trying to get your hands on a copy, let us know what you think of the new OS. Now to the purpose of this article.
I've read many reviews of Vista out there. Oooo it's pretty and ten times smarter! ...but how does it play with games, man!? Well, I'm here to help you decide if you should make the jump or not. From what I've read, so far, you are probably better off sticking with XP, but I'll let you decide that for yourself.
TechGage ran the best test (how many other tests do you really need?) using the same computer, one running Windows XP Professional and the other running Windows Vista Ultimate (both were clean installations, mind you), with the minimum number of tweaks made only to keep the playing field level. They ran Half Life 2: Episode 1, Call of Duty 2: Episode 1, and Quake IV. Only in Quake IV did Vista Ultimate outperform XP Pro, but only by about 1.3 frames per second. For the rest of the games, XP Pro clearly came out on top. The same is true when the testers ran 3D Mark 01, 05, and 06. However, keep in mind, the video drivers used are new. The manufacturer's have not yet had a good amount of time to optimize their drivers for the newborn operating system. Give it a bit of time, I'm sure it'll catch up.
My final thoughts on the tests? Keep XP for the time being. Plus my gaming experiences under Vista RC2 weren't too rosey, but I'm sure a lot of those issues have been remedied. I, personally, am not yet ready to sacrifice gaming performance for a flashy new way to 'Windows tab' through my open applications. What about you? Follow the link for test.

I'll probably install Vista Home Premium on a separate partition.
No luck on installing Leopard any time soon, my lappy can't even handle Tiger.
Steve Jobs says a lot of things that are very misleading/untrue. No one ever notices though because it's Jobs who is saying it. :3
i knew you could do it. :)
Me too Steven. And I feel kind of guilty for it, but mostly because I'm a sit-on-my-ass kind of guy.
