Actraiser Comes To Japanese VC

actraiser_map-f.jpg

Ninty fanboys and fangirls, hold on to your seats, Actraiser has been announced for the Virtual Console… in Japan. It is sometimes difficult to accept the fact that Japan gets the coolest of the cool, and we get the sloppy seconds. Keep your chins up, eventually we should get this classic action/strategy/rpg.

For the initiate, Actraiser was groundbreaking back in the day. It was released among the first wave of titles for the Super Nintendo in 1991, and was published by Enix . The game featured side-scrolling action stages where you play The Master (God) in his quest to eradicate evil from the land and restore peace and prosperity. After hacking and slashing your way through the level and defeating the boss of the side scrolling segment, the player would transform into The Angel in a top down perspective for the strategy/action segments to protect your villages and destroy neighboring monsters. Once the various monster lairs were defeated, they would leave behind a glowing circular disk. When you capture the disk, it would restore part of your town, or landscape. You objective was to restore all of the lost segments of your land.

Actraiser would be a perfect addition to the VC in the States. We need more beefy games to round out the library. Nintendo is on the right track by releasing Ocarina of Time, but there are some old school gems out there that must be represented, like Soul Blazer for instance. I see Soul Blazer as more of the spiritual sequel to Actraiser than Actraiser 2.

What VC games would you like to see? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is awesome for two reasons.

1. Actraiser is FUCKING SWEET.

2. This is the first game from the Square-Enix library to show up on the VC! Here's hoping for the Soul Blazer trilogy, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana.

Oh I hope Actraiser comes stateside in VC, that game so rocks! *keeps fingers crossed* I guess I'll just have to go play it on SNES till then. XD

Soul Blazer was actually the first in a loose trilogy consisting of Soul Blazer, The Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma. They all had very similar themes and that is why they are often considered to be a trilogy.

Hawt! Right after this, how about some Dragon Quest I and a little Sat Fox 64!

I loved ActRaiser! The side scrolling action parts were pretty crappy but the Angel stages where you clear land and build towns was a ton of fun.

Oh dear lord, I never thought I would find another lover of my favorite game of all time: Soul Blazer. The day that comes to the VC is the day my gas bill goes unpaid and I buy a Wii.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
