Blue Dragon Monster Art Reveals Freudian Impulses

Blue Dragon is the hit that the 360 was looking for in Japan. With a great rating of 37 out of 40 from revered gaming magazine Famitsu and 80,348 units sold in the first four days (making it the fastest selling title ever for the 360 in Japan), that's a fact that can't be disputed.
And you know something is doing well in Japan if they are making it into an anime and manga series. I'm particularly excited for one of the two manga series, Blue Dragon Ral Grado, because it's art is being done by Takeshi Obata, the manga artist known for his almost seamless draftsmanship that brought you Hikaru No Go and DeathNote. Somehow this franchise is getting treatment from all of the most revered creative minds in Japan.
Least of all, the great manga talent of Akira Toriyama. If you don't know who he is by now, you haven't been paying attention to video games for very long. Like Dragon Quest, he has done all the character and monster design, and RPGamer has compiled a collection of 46 of the great monsters at the link below. Be warned, there's a lot of phallic conflict going on.

Maybe it's just me, but MAN I've always found Toriyama's work to be patently ugly. I'm not a big Dragon Ball fan, either. But I'm digging these two guys:
