DeathNote DS
Maybe you didn't know. You love DeathNote. Written by Tsugumi Oba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, it is one of the great new manga series. Currently being translated into English by Viz, there are currently 9 volumes with only 3 more to follow. The premise is such:
A talented honors student, Light Yagami, finds a book dropped by a shinigami (death god) that can kill people, just by writing in a name while thinking of the person's face. He decides to rid the world of crime by killing off all criminals but soon meets opposition by the governments of the world, who then enlist the master detective, "L" to find and stop this unknown figure that calls himself "Kira". A deadly battle of wits ensues.
Sound exciting? It is. With great characters and an engaging plotline, it's met huge success in Japan with a live action movie, anime and tons of merchandise following the end of the series. Looks like Konami is making a DeathNote game too, called DeathNote: Kira Game for what else but Japan's favorite system, the Nintendo DS.
Looks great, but how will it play? As far as I can gather from this teaser trailer, it will be similar to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney with stressful situations in which you play the role of Kira and, using the Death Note and your wits, write your way into world domination. The game could potentially be controversial, since the US seems to be pretty touchy when it comes to the combination of high school kids, demons and mass death. Stay tuned for any news of a stateside release.

I just recently started reading Death Note and I really hope this comes stateside, even though I doubt it. The movie is pretty cool, especially since it's live action. You can find it on YouTube with subtitles.
I soooo loved Death Note. I started watching the show and couldn't wait so I imported the manga and just roughly translated the remaining Manga books for myself and I was so wowed by it I became a crazy Deathnote fan boy for a few months. A DS Deathnote game seems more than practical. Write a character's name, they die. It might take some time to translate into English and get a working OCR but if/when it comes it will be very popular. All people need to do is get the word out. You take one glimpse JUST A GLIMPSE at this series and you will never be able to look away it's just that addictive.
Oh and normally I hate mainstream anime. My last big anime addiction was Kemonozume. I wouldn't call Death Note mainstream, though. It certainly thinks outside the box and the tense duels between Light and L had me screaming at a comic book while on the edge of my seat.
Wow, I've never heard of this series before, but I feel like I'm already an addict.
Sugoi!! a DN game :D!!
