DOFUS, An Unfortunate Name For A Fortunate Game

I tried Dofus out several months ago, on a much crappier computer than my new MacBook, and after an hour or so of distraction at work, put it down and sort of forgot about it. Thanks to this game trailer, I've rediscovered it, and I'm pretty glad I did. The site has had a definite revamp since my last visit, and the anime-ish cartoony world seems even more developed. Brought to us by Ankama, a French web-based publisher, Dofus has everything you could want from a free MMORPG, and unlike Maple Story, works on browsers other than Explorer.

It really is a beautiful game, and the monsters and characters are cute and interesting enough to keep you logged on. It's all in 2D but has a top down viewpoint that I find a little less stifling than Maple Story's side scrolling platforms. Thus there is less confusion when multiple people are fighting the same enemy, and drops are a little more fairly distributed. The way your character looks has everything to do with the class you choose and nothing to do with a character you design, and in that way it can feel a little boring to some players, but the wide variety of interesting classes that are difficult to differentiate into the usual knights, mages, and healers mixes it up just enough.

Although downloading was a bit of a pain in my lazy-tight-pants-wearing ass, I do highly recommend it. In fact, I think I can honestly say that this is Pirate Prince's official time waster. At least this week.

Is there a tutorial as to how to configure your flash player or whatever? I'm so confused! But yay for being able to use it on a Mac!

I haven't played Dofus in a while, but yes, it's superfun. I had to put it down because it was eating up too much of my time. I'd started logging on at work to play, which would've been bad if I'd been caught.

As far as configuring your Flash player ... here's a conversation we had about hacking the player, back when it was still in beta. I dunno if it still works: http://www.iknowwhatimdoing.com/archives/2005/07/fullscreen_dofu.shtml

Fighting against a sewer rat by the name of sphincter cell? Not entirely sure... But the download was over in 8 mins on a fairly moderate DSL line. I'll give it a go.
