FFXII Revenant Wings Trailer Finally Reveals Gameplay
Square-Enix finally released some gameplay trailers for Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, and I must say that it looks pretty amazing. The graphics are beautiful, I'm continually blown away by what the DS can pull out of it's dual-screened hat.
Now, the gameplay. There seems to be some element of the gambit system in place; Vaan and Penelo move forward into the action while Fran and Balthier stay back and throw projectiles. Penelo then seems to focus on healing all of the characters while Vaan goes straight for the boss and makes quick work of it. Movement seems to be controlled by a group or less, possibly with the stylus, and they take over their pre-programmed action from there. I assume one will be able to change the action performed mid-battle. It is unknown yet how simplified the gambit system will be, and if a player will only perform one action at a time--in the trailer it appears so.
If you make the jump, you will see huge battlefields with monsters on your team, so there must be some element of monster capture and/or management.
All in all, I'm very pleased. It looks a lot like a free-formed strategy game, FF Free Tactics, if you will. It is sure to be hours and hours of Ivalician fun when it comes out later this year in the US (I hope). The only thing that could make me more excited about this game would be an announcement of a minigame in which you can slowly and completely undress Balthier. There's still time, Squeenix. The fans have spoken.

it looks lovely. ever so.
I didn't want the game until I saw this. Now my panties are damp.
lookin good, i still have to beat the first one though :(
I love the gameplay in this one (or at least what the game trailers depict), but hate the way the characters look. Considering that this game was based off Final Fantasy 12, I was expecting them to look less, well, chibi and cartooney. Anyway, besides that small issue I am looking forward to this game.
it's for the DS! little characters for a little system! what did you expect, fully polygonal and realistic?
oh wow i really want this game now
