Let The Unholy Marketing Campaign Begin!

Now that it's officially February, it appears that we're overdue for some last-minute marketing in regards to the probably-underwhelming Ghost Rider film due out on the 16th. Maybe I'd be a little more enthusiastic about this if the movie weren't directed by the same guy who made Daredevil back in 2003, and maybe I'd be a little more excited about the game if I hadn't played a couple of demo levels at E3. From what I remember, it was very drab, very dark (in the poorly-lit kind of way, not the overall-tone kind of way), and very linear; the gameplay itself felt like it'd been poorly copied from both Devil May Cry and God of War.

Marvel Comics is now promoting the game on their website, and I can't really say I'm any more enthused than I was at E3:

Whether you're a fan of the comics or dig the movie version, Ghost Rider has you covered! The game's storyline picks up where the movie leaves off and is penned by fan-favorite comic writers Garth Ennis and Jimmy Palmiotti! Under their direction, the game steers players through a number of intense locations, from the Quentin Carnival and Caretaker's Graveyard, to the skyscraper that links Earth to the depths of Hell.

After you're pulled in by the game's story, get ready for some wild action as you wield Ghost Rider's Penance Stare, hellfire chain and hellfire shotgun to take on enemies in combo-heavy combat. And when you're not taking on the minions of hell in hand-to-hand battles, hop on the Hell Cycle for some Road-Rash-style gameplay. Swing your chain and use the bike's powers: ride on water, boost over jumps, power down under obstacles to take down enemies.

If you enjoyed the upgrade system in Marvel Ultimate Alliance, you'll also dig Ghost Rider's upgrade system which allows you to beef up and improve the Hell Cycle and Hellfire Chain, as well as gain new moves and stat increases using the essence of defeated foes as fuel. Be sure to keep Ghost Rider in top shape as he'll be taking on classic comic villains throughout the game.

Now, when I was a kid, I actually spent a lot of time reading comics (yeah, I know, big shocker there), and Ghost Rider was a favorite character of mine because of his mature storylines and paranormal themes. As a result, I find his weak representation in other forms of media to be a rather insidious blow and will continue to hope that Nick Cage actually does the character justice in a week and a half. Please note that I said "hope" and not "expect".
