LucasArts Does Not Dig Digg, Acts Like Idiot

dig.jpg

George Lucas' trademark insanity does seem to trump the accomplishments of his venerable LucasArts studio now and then...case in point: the company has apparently noticed this new "Digg" thing, and is making the absurd claim that the name is confusingly similar to the title of its forgotten 1994 game, The Dig. To quote Game|Life, "Yes, this is that stupid."

Well, congratulations, grasping, idiotic lawyers. You've proven once again that there are too many of you in this world, and too few flamethrowers. Non-grasping, non-idiotic lawyers: I still love you. Thanks for the tax loops and all those bail bonds. LucasArts: what the hell? The people who use Digg.com are the people who love George Lucas. Also: what kind of idiot savant would confuse a popular Web 2.0 blog post ranking site with an obscure, 12yo game?

Of course, an intelligent Digger pointed out that Lucas is "just exercising their legal requirement to defend their trademarks or risk losing them." Ok, that's fair if it's true. But it's still silly, and I'm still going to say so. Plus, I can't wait to see if this legal fracas gets Digged to death.

This reminds me how retarded the bloody copyright laws are.

Case in point: Paris Hilton copyrighted 'That's Hot' so you better not use it if you see your kid reach for a hot pan. You better say 'That is highly heated'

Yeah, but wasn't it fun? Not as good as Full Throttle, however.

I know I wasn't the only person to play The Dig out there. I loved most of the Lucasarts adventure games. This one was no slouch, and I think it came right before Full Throtte, which was amazing by the way. The best though, was Grim Fandango. Hands down, no competition, the best.

The Dig was okay... I spent a Saturday on it pretty recently. Putting the stupid skeleton together is a huge pain. I'm a monkey island whore, though. If I don't see a monkey island game within the next couple of years I am going to burn lucasarts to the ground for sitting on the IP.
