Rockstar Brings Euphoria Animation Engine To Upcoming Titles

Rockstar is bringing NaturalMotion’s euphoria animation technology to future Rockstar games. The euphoria engine would provide A.I. controlled animations that allow characters to physically react to their environments while simulating the human body’s natural motor skills. The benefits for utilizing this animation system are improved realism in animation, and it clears development time and disk space for pre-scripted animations.
NaturalMotion CEO Torsten Rei said in a public statement:
euphoria is about giving people an interactive experience they have never seen before. We now have the processing power to simulate humans, and the possibilities for games are endless.
Nothing has been confirmed by Rockstar, but I’m putting my bets on Grand Theft Auto 4 being animated by Euphoria. It just makes sense. It’s their flagship title making a next-gen debut, which has to impress as much as Grand Theft Auto 3 did when it came out. We have seen what they can do graphically by the Table Tennis game, now combine those models with this engine, and you have a sure-fire hit.
