Toyota Sells New Scions In Second Life

2ndlifetoyota.jpg

I just don't get the appeal behind Second Life. I really don't. I also don't get the appeal behind Toyota's Scion, aside from the price. I personally think the cars look like boxes. Ugly boxes. I'm pretty sure that if I kicked my Explorer into 4-Low, I could just drive right over those ugly boxes, too. Seriously, they look about as threatening as a low-grade speedbump.

Anyway, I digress: the new Scions were announced yesterday at the Chicago Auto Show and were also loaded onto Second Life so that people could... I dunno, test drive them or something, I guess.

Both the redesigned Scion xB and brand-new xD are being offered for 300 Linden dollars ($1 USD) for use in the virtual world; a nominal fee toward becoming one of Toyota's virtual "trendsetter" promoters. The cars are being sold at kiosks in Toyota's 'Scion City' district of Second Life, where the automaker hopes to also sell unused real estate to young entrepreneurs. The idea is to grow Scion City into a bustling promotional "cultural" mecca.

There are enough people to turn any part of Second Life into a mecca of any sort? Silly me, and here I thought the population numbers were exaggerated.

Second life is pretty cool!

People talked shunningly about 'the interweb' a decade ago, too. Look where we are now. You can turn into your older aunts and uncles who don't know how to check their email, or you can adapt to the changing times and learn one of the applications that is picking up pace steadily as being one of the new forms of human experience and expression. Just remember, we're always a day away from being obsolete if we don't keep up.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
