Virtual Kirby Retrospective

Ever since Kirby's Adventure came out on the Virtual Console, I'm going through a Kirby revival. I still think he's creepy as ever, but there's a simple cuteness to the Kirby games that is just a little rare nowadays. Sure, there are tons of
cute games, but they aren't (and really can't be anymore) as simple as "a circle with two dots and a great big smile."

Released in 1993 originally, I have to say I prefer the original Kirby's small eyes and aesthetic to the new Kirby. Something about those big shiny eyes unsettles me. The levels have a cohesive look and a comicky feel that had to make up for the NES's lack of color with personality. Level design is simple, because Kirby is, and it somehow comes together very cohesively for such an early game.

So maybe you aren't even considering buying it for your Wii, but hopefully this video will remind you of how entertaining the Kirby series can be. Because like Kirby's crude outline, 5 dollars isn't that much.
