We Blow Your Horn, Too!
I know, I know: I've filled my site-fluffing quotient for the week, probably the month. But this time is special: we're in the February 2007 issue of Out Magazine! Yes, in what is the gay equivalent of a spread in Playboy (or a Barbara Walters interview, depending on your point of view), the entirety of page 39 of this month's issue of Out is devoted to gay gamers, y'all! Not just the site, either, but all gay gamers. (You and you and you and...yeah, you!)
Fruit Brute is interviewed heavily in the article, which brings to the gay mainstream press the mention of our existence as gay gamers, and has an upbeat look at the $10 billion gaming industry as it begins to take notice of the gay audience...the $690 billion-a-year gay audience. Yeah, that's right. We're expected to spend that much this year in the United States alone. What self-respecting game profiteer wouldn't want to dip his ladle in that gravy boat?
That's you, guys. That's us. I'm rethinking my standing policy on not expecting too much in the way of good gay content in games... as our ukulele-loving leader told Out's Dan Rubinstein: "We're becoming a community to be reckoned with."
Game on!
