13 Most Beautiful Avatars In Second Life

Italian artists Eva and Franco Mattes have created a collection of digital prints on canvas called 13 Most Beautiful Avatars. The title is in reference to Andy Warhol’s short films 13 Most Beautiful Women and 13 Most Beautiful Boys. The canvas mounted prints measure are pretty sizable, measuring 36 x 46 inches.
The artists didn’t create the avatars for the show, they gathered avatars from around Second Life, shot them and blew them up on canvas. I imagine the collection as a whole would be interesting to see if it were displayed properly, but the individual pieces don’t strike me as much of an artistic achievement. The achievement lies in the beauty of the creation of the avatars and the beauty of the form in it’s natural environment. I guess many people thought the same thing about Andy Warhol when he started filming his friends around The Factory. His statements about pop culture and natural beauty are still relevant in the art scene today.

What? Mine's not on there? :(
Nice of them to include two token (and slightly femme) male avatars.
Those are... really boring.
The most gorgeous avatars I've seen on Second Life are the big non-humanoid ones that look like floating art pieces. There's one guy who hangs around on Help Island who typically takes on the form of a giant glowing jellyfish, and he's a hell of a lot much prettier than any of the generically "beautiful" human avatars. He's got a big spidery one too that's also extremely well-made, and probably at least a few others.
Seriously... in a game where anything's possible, why do so many people stick to such boring pop-culture beauty ideals? I get so sick of all the tanned babes with pouty lips, flowing hair, and movie star makeup.
I agree with Hannah above, what is up with this post. When I think of Second Life I don't think of super models. Everyone's avatar looks exactly like these people. The only person on here that even deserves recognition is Aimee Weber and thats because she did her entire av herself.
Nah, this was basically another stupid "we're better then you" Second Life bs award.
