Elite 360 vs. PS3....FIGHT!

As was expected, a gaming site has put up a side-by-side comparison of the new Elite Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The results? Even when comparing the fully decked out Elite 360 to a similarly equipped PS3, the 360 retains the price 'advantage.' If you want to call it that, as the price difference between the two is only $7.85. Elite 360 weighs in at a whopping $849.95 and the PS3 comes in at a slightly higher $857.80. Here's a snippet from the article:
XBox 360 Elite: $849.95 This number declines sharply if next-gen disc formats aren't a priority to you as a consumer, or if consumers have no interest in wireless connectivity.Playstation 3: $857.80
Obviously, this number declines sharply with the purchase of a Logitech headset and an HDMI cable from Monoprice.
If you want to take a look at an itemized list, which I recommend, follow the link. I won't get an Elite 360, unless my 360 Pro dies fairly soon. ...but still, I'd much rather have the 120Gb hard drive. What are your thoughts, is the Elite 360 really necessary or just nice to have around?
Better Value? Sony's PlayStation 3 or Microsoft's Elite 360 [1-Up]

I'm planning to buy the elite just for the HDMI cable. Except for the occasional downloads, I don't expect to be a big customer of their marketplace. The 120gb hard drive means almost nothing to me. Of course, I would prefer that they outfitted their Pro with those, instead.
Something I don't get
Why buy an HDMI device if you are not gonna use it for HD playback? You're not downloading, ok, but unless you use the HD-DVD addon regularly, you're upgrading your exisitng 399$ machine to a 479$ for no real purpose
T
How long have we known that it was going to be $849?
... jeeeeeezus.
Buy 3 wiis!!!! Save $100
The HDMI port will be nice for the HD-DVD drive or HD content downloaded from the Video Market place.
The Elite system will sell in limited numbers for a period of time and then be turned white and replace current Premium system and the Core system will eventually be phased out.
The 120gig drive might seem too big now, but it provides Microsoft with plenty of breathing room. Especially with their IPTV addon announcement due out this fall.
