FF Tactics: The Lions War. Whining Commencing...
Stuff like this pisses me off. Sure, it's all fine and dandy that Final Fantasy Tactics is being remade with the subtitle The Lions War, considering that it is one of the most challenging and rewarding gaming experiences of my life, but why is it being remade on the PSP of all places? A simultaneous PS2 release couldn't hurt, could it? I've never understood the prevalence of strategy based games on handheld platforms... the sheer amount of time and immersion required to make it out alive precedes any sort of "on the fly" gaming that a handheld offers.
More importantly, I don't have a PSP, and I don't plan on getting one. Yes, my reasons are largely selfish.
I'm perfectly happy with my DS, and so far I have found no reason that I must own a PSP as well. Sure, it's pretty, but it's focus doesn't seem to be on gaming per se. Rather a system of many uses, for someone that plans to use it as a portable life assistant/entertainment system, and I neither have the need or the cash to purchase said item. Maybe a rerelease of Tactics is enough to get a certain hardcore FF stratetgy-based demographic to go out and buy a PSP, but not I. Even if there are new classes like Onion Knight and Dark Knight, new revamped cel-shaded cutscenes, and an... appearance by... Balthier... No, wait. That's more than enough.
A US release date has yet to be announced, but it's coming to Japan in May. Until then, check out the official website and consider buying a PSP for the Pirate Prince.

I'm totally with you on this one.
FFT is my top favorite game, and the fact that they remade it for PSP just baffles and frustrates me.
The reason they won't re-release it on the PS2, is to get people like you to buy a PSP. :3

If you really dig the game, you should consider getting a PSP. Who cares what platform its on?
Alternatively, you could just wait. This is already a remake of sorts: Squeenix are totally on a milking trip to get as much as they can out of their old games. And rightly so too, they're still great diversions.
The chances of this not coming out on a platform with a larger user base? Nil.
well, considering that we (and by we i mean teh DS awesum club) have gotten the big Dragon Warrior announcement and all kinds of Revenant Wings goodies in the past month, Square Enix likely just wants to give them (and by them i mean no-no-no-so-sad-psp-dudes :( :( TTlolz) a little hope before stomping out their pittering hearts with new FF Tactics Advance 2 news.
I'm with you, though, on the notion that any good news for the PSP is bad news for civilization as a whole.
