FFT A2? More Confusing Names From Square-Enix

Who are these sprightly and strapping young folk? Well hold on to your styluses (styli?) because it's the two first revealed characters, Adel and Luso, from the final game in the "Ivalice Alliance": Final Fantasy Tactics A2!! Little is known about the game, but because it was only known as FFTA2 many believed that it would be a full on sequel to FFTA and be released on the Game Boy Advance. Not so. In a recent magazine scan found in Shonen Jump Weekly, we find out that it has been confirmed for the DS and sports beautiful graphics as well as grid-strategy based gameplay and all new characters. If you look closely at one of the game images, it looks like everyone's favorite hunt monster, the Cluckatrice, is one of the game's many enemies.
This continues Square-Enix's strange tradition of naming games in a difficult and troublesome manner. I don't know how many times I had to explain the title Final Fantasy X-2 and the difference between Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children to rubes. Because the A is separate from the rest of the title, it doesn't appear to mean "Advance" but because the DS is dual screened, it could be a pseudo-clever reference to the doubling of FFTA. In the end, does it matter? Let's just start waiting for more media to come in and twiddle our thumbs in anticipation.

Er, actually, I'm pretty sure it does mean 'Advance'. When S-E announced the Ivalice Alliance, I'm pretty sure "Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2" was listed as one of the games in the compilation.
Additionally, there's not a whole lot they can do when making sequels to games from the canon. How else would you indicated a game is a sequel to FFX when there's already an FFXI?
I'm actually not anticipating this one and FFXII:RW as much as I am FFT:Lion Wars because the character designs aren't by Akihiko Yoshida.
I'm that kinda geek:) But I'll get em all anyway:P
FFT is probably my favorite game of all time. FFTA, on the other hand, kind of blew. And from the magazine scan, it looks like a direct port from the GBA version. I'll cross my fingers, though, and try not to get my hopes too high for FFTA2.
Tactics Advanced was great. I don't see why everyone ragged on it so much. The politics of the First Tactics made my head hurt too much. (Not to mention there were growing concerns about many games coming from Japan that were too "Anti-Judeo Christian" which FFT gets cited as an example)Plus the translation of the first one was NOTICIBLY off.
There is a growing trend in Japan where game and anime titles are growing stranger and more complex for simple things, though.
Bluebreaker, I'll agree with you on the FFT story. Even though its my favorite game, I can honestly say I have absolutely no idea what happened - story wise - in the game at all. It really was too confusing.
That said, it was one hell of a fun game.
