GayGamer Group For FightAIDS@Home

fightAIDSHome.jpg

I have been covering a couple of online medical projects for the past few weeks. The Folding@Home Project was the first one covered, but through that story I found out about another project that struck a chord.

FightAIDS@Home is a program that shares the World Community Grid along with Folding@Home. The Grid’s mission in medical research is to “build the largest public computing grid benefiting humanity.“ The networked computers create a grid with enormous computational power that far surpasses the processing power of a few supercomputers. The calculations are split into small chunks that can be processed in parallel with other computers on the network.

One of our loyal readers, Duke Hoskie, took it upon himself to create a Gay Gamer computing group for the FightAIDS@Home project. I found out about it through Squire Squeech, who said he joined the group shortly after. I have FightAIDS@home running as a screensaver on my computer. I went to the official site and downloaded the installer, which brings you to the World Community site where you register as a user. Through the Community site, I was able to search the research groups for Gay Gamer. You can either browse by letter or do a search.

All three of us are in the number crunching group together with GayGamer.net as the homesite. We would love for you to join computers to help fight HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. In 2004 more than 40 million people around the world were living with HIV. AIDS has taken many precious people from this world, and continues to affect more and more people every day. Donate some of your idle processes, so one day we may be able to live in a world without AIDS.

Thanks again to Hoskie and Squeech for your support!

Awesome!!! Thank you again, Toots, for championing this great, great service!

How great is would be if this research led to a cure ... just think of it.

You know, humanity (and a bunch of caring geeks and gamers) can be so darn cool sometimes.

When you sign up for the service, you are given a bunch of options on what diseases you would like to service. I chose just FightAIDS@Home. I plan on doing a series of these posts. If there is any discrepancies on how to sign up to the appropriate computational group ie. the Gay Gamer group, please voice your concerns in the comments and I will try to alleviate your issues in the future. Together we can make a difference.
