GDC 07: Aquaria Takes Home Top IGF Award

Bit-Blot's gorgeous 2D underwater adventure Aquaria took home the $2,000 Seamus McNally grand prize in Wednesday night's Independent Game Festival Awards. If you haven't gotten a chance to check this wonderful game out, I've included the trailer after the jump.
Other winners included: Queasy Games' Everyday Shooter which won two awards for Design Innovation and Excellence In Audio, Castle Crashers, which also took two awards Excellence In Visual Art and the Audience Choice Award, Three Rings' Bang! Howdy, which won in the Technical Excellence category, and the beautiful Flash based Samorost 2, took home the Best Web Game prize. The award for the best student game went to Digipen's Toblo.
It's great to see independent games getting the attention they deserve. So often these titles get overlooked, but with the advent of downloadable content, I think we will be a seeing a lot more of these incredible games on our home systems.
You can see the full list of winners and finalists (with links!) at the IGF website.

You know, the music is absolutely fantastic...it reminds me of, and I know I'll probably be spanked for it later, "Zombie" by The Cranberries. I'm looking forward to Aquaria.
She kind of reminds me of Chiana from Farscape. But otherwise really neat! I'd love to see this get scooped up by the DS.
I got to this trailer pretty early on and am still in the process of bugging them about a beta release for a preview. Now that they've won, they'd better get this out of the door.
