GTA-Inspired Gang Member Sentenced

Gregory Colbert, the man who founded the S.F. Bay Area street gang known as the Nut Cases, has been given a sentence of 75 years to life of jail time. While this may seem strange to be reporting here, there's one small detail you might not be aware of: the Nut Cases were the street gang who apparently re-enacted their antics in Grand Theft Auto in real life, which lead them to commit some truly heinous crimes and provide more fuel for He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's incoherent legal rantings.
The Nut Cases were an Oakland street gang who told police that they spent their time getting high and playing the video game "Grand Theft Auto," then went and perpetrated the violent acts shown in the game, including robbery and murders. They called themselves the Nut Cases, and several members sported tattoos showing the Planters logo Mr. Peanut and the words "Nut Case."Colbert was not implicated in five, high profile murders that took place in 2002 and 2003, for which six people have been charged. Nieto said prosecutors had evidence that Colbert was culpable in those murders, but not enough was admissible.
The gang was arrested in 2003, and some of its other members are facing multiple life sentences for their crimes. Colbert himself was convicted for the murder of a deputy district attorney, though the offense for which he was sentenced was actually the murder of his friend Glen Phaso.
