Jake Gyllenhaal in Tights? Yes, Please!
The New York Daily News reported earlier this week that "Brokeback Mountain" hottie Jake Gyllenhaal may sign on to play Captain Marvel in New Line Cinema's "Shazam!" (not to be confused with "Kazaam"), which is based on the DC comic and slated for 2008. And um... yeah... there's not much else to that rumor; I just wanted an excuse to put this sexy photo up on the site. (You're welcome.)

** Update 3/19: The "Shazam!" screenwriter debunks the Gyllenhaal rumor: "There’s no casting list. If there were a list, Gyllenhaal’s name would probably be on it, but trust me: there is no list. There’s no start date, no release date, no movie whatsoever. There’s just a script to be written. Which I should probably get back to."

ok time to put my nerd hat on...
Billy Batson (Captain marvel,) is a child/teenager who turns into Cap Marvel by saying a magic word. This had BETTER mean that if Jakey there is going to play the role that he would only be playing the adult part. They would have to cast some kid to play Billy for the first 1/3rd of the film.
Also why a Shazam movie and not any number of better DC heroes? I rather dislike the big red cheese.
Captain Marvel would pretty much have to be reimagined since he's even more two-dimensional than golden-age Superman, as is the whole Shazam concept in general.
Maybe they'll Battlestarize it and it'll be okay, but I'm not really holding my breath.
