Mario & Sonic Together... The End Is Nigh!

Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, deadly nemeses since the early 90s, have reconciled their decades-long war and have agreed to appear in a fucking game together. Not since Kissinger invented shuttle diplomacy has such a hostile situation been turned around this fast. The result? Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games, an aptly-themed game coming to both the Wii and DS that will bring together characters from both Mario and Sonic universes, who will compete in a spread of events such as track, swimming, table tennis and, I hope, Greco-Roman wrestling (can I get an amen?).
Amen, indeed. This may herald more than just a new age in inter-franchise gaming relations, I'm sad to say. Give your firstborn to Angelina Jolie and prepare for Ragnarok, because the sky is falling and the fat lady is going through her final vocal warm-ups. It's a little-known fact that the Bible actually refers to this event as an omen of the end of days:
"And lo, when the Mushroom meets the Rings, and maketh peace between them as Man and Hedgehog, then shall ye know the Rapture is nigh."
But who cares about the end of the world? Shigeru Miyamoto had sunnier words to say concerning the new couple's blossoming romance:
"Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals since the early days of video games... In fact, for a long time they have been discussing the possibility of one day competing against each other. Now that they have been given the perfect opportunity to meet at the Olympic Games, we may finally learn who is actually faster, Mario or Sonic?"
Sega is developing the game in-house as an official tie-in to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing... Check out the recently-launched website or make the jump to read the press release from Nintendo. And celebrate!

cute! But it's not like Mario will ever be able to outrun Sonic, right?
I've been trying to wrap my head around the concept of this darn game all day, and it still boggles me. I'm a child of the "Genesis does what Nintendon't" and "You can't find ______ on the Genesis!" era of advertising, and even knowing how they two get along now and even collaborated on the exceedingly cruel F-Zero GC games, they still don't go "together." Still, I'm very interested in how it turns out.
What's probably even more shocking about this title is that a Japanese game company is making a game honoring the Olympics in China. There is little love lost between the two people.
Hmm is this going to be the first DS and Wii dual game play?
Or am i missing something entirely that you all know?
The proximity of this announcement to the first of April makes me feel uncomfortable. In other words, I hope this isn't an April fools joke that Sega is pulling.
Oh my God, this is the big one, I'm still in a bit of shock reading this, and yeah, I hope that this just isn't a joke.
so, the 4 horsemen are coming, we get it, no point in making it more obvious...
but seriously, this game will totally rock, or it will be the bigest pice of ***t made by men, after Uwe Boll movies.. that if tis real
Aargh. I FINALLY get a game with Mario and Sonic together, and it's a track and field game?
(weeps openly)
... *runs to window to confirm that, yes, pigs are now flying.*
Awww crap.
Neat, a game with Mario vs. Sonic.
Now if only it were... say.... Smash Bros.
finally, they've been flirting with each other for a while now. time to get crackin.
I hope that this doesn't mean Sonic won't be in SSBB
