Mizuguchi's Next XBLA Game

EEEExtreme.jpg

Rumors have been circulating recently about Mizuguchi’s next game for the XBLA. Some thought it would be Every Extend Extra, or even resurrect Rez for some XBLA action. Now it’s been officially unveiled as an update to the PSP title of a shorter name, Every Extend Extra Extreme.

Every Extend Extra Extreme
will feature three game modes, single player, multiplayer and Wiz Ur Muzik. The Wiz Ur Muzik mode will allow players to use music from their CDs to play the game. This should change the overall theme of the level in the same way the music and samples change from level to level in Every Extend Extra.

A release date has not been set for this game, but expect to see it before the end of the year. I’m hoping Q Entertainment learns from the mistakes of Lumines Live and doesn’t go for a repeat offense with hidden microtransactions to get the whole game. They are tight lipped at the moment, but more info should surface closer to the release of the game.

What I would really like to see from Q-Entertainment is a sequel to Rez, or just a reinterpretation of the original game. They should offer the original on XBLA, but also a version that has updated music specifically. The game doesn’t age much visually, because it is so abstract, but going back and listening to the Trance beats of the soundtrack, makes the game feel somewhat dated. Here’s my advice, remix everything in 5.1, add splashy particle effects, beef up the enemy models, and update the music. Sure fire hit, guaranteed.
