Multiwinia: Multiplayer Darwinia Madness In '08

darwinia-logo-225.jpg

The multiple award winning game and indie darling Darwinia goes multiplayer next year. Multiwinia is a stand-alone product that will allow for cooperative or competitive multiplayer Darwinia sessions. There are little details on how the matchmaking will work, but we will be watching this game through development.

Dawinia is an action and real time strategy hybrid with a highly stylized presentation. The game borrows many visual references to the film Tron and a visual style similar to Rez for PS2. The game involves killing computer virus in the innards of a computer. You control scout/retrieval/tech units, 3 person soldier units, as a God-like puppetmaster who must eradicate the serpent like virus and evil red Darwinians. It is just the essentials of both RTS and action genres, that fits naturally with the simplicity of control and minimalist visual presentation.

Introversion sounds like they are thinking big with Multiwinia, by adding a formation mode to the game, “which will let you organize your Darwinians into ranks to create massive armies." I can imagine the all-out wars that can happen in game. I’m hoping for some huge maps, big arenas where players can stage gigantic wars. Also balance the huge maps, with some private rooms for dainty little skirmishes.

Expect to see Multiwinia in 2008 and check back for further updates.
