New Conan Footage Cleaves Its Way Onto Net

I'm still not sure how I feel about the fact that Nihilistic is developing THQ's upcoming Conan game... mainly because I have yet to see them make a game that was really that all that good. So far, all the games they've actually completed (remember how they got yanked away from Starcraft: Ghost) have been fairly mediocre. Don't get me wrong, I thought their take on Vampire: The Masquerade was certainly gorgeous, but it was also deeply flawed in terms of gameplay. Oh, and let's not even bother mentioning Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects... the less said about that disaster, the better.

However, I will say this for Conan: it certainly looks like a solid action game, with elements from both the Prince of Persia and God of War that don't quite feel ripped-off yet. The graphics certainly seem to fit the mood of Howard's pulp-fantasy narrative, and all the character animations look pretty solid, as well. Maybe, at least in terms of finished games, the third time will be Nihilistic's charm.

A back-suplex? Seriously, DMC is a great game. And GoW may or may not be a great extension on the same. But people have *got* to get some fresh ideas. When you start playing GoW you know pretty much exactly what to do, except maybe for the trigger events - but other than that, it's the same "do combos, earn little glowy things from monsters" principle. Conan deserves better than this, you know he does..
