New Gaming Wikia From The Founder Of Wikipedia

Wikipedia has become an all-around font of information on any topic conceivable, comprised solely of user submissions. The founder, Jimmy Wales, now wants to branch out in very specific topics to create several “open source magazines” devoted to gaming, music, cars, and health. Gaming.wikia, tunes.wikia, cars.wikia, and health.wikia will all serve their respective topics by user-submitted articles and comments to foster several passionate writing communities. From the press release:
"The 'open-source magazines' we're unveiling today are focused largely around topics where passionate people have already started collaborating online," said Dan Lewis, vice president of business development at Wikia. "The launch of Tunes, Cars, Gaming and Health is a continuation of our mission to open-source the creation and development of content around every topic imaginable--so we are obviously not stopping here."The new communities have a similar look and feel, and allow people to blog, rate content and freely contribute news and information on topics they are passionate about. Users can access the four new communities through a single log-in and password.
The sites are in their infancy right now, so there really isn’t too much there. The sites look more like a collaborative blog than Wikipedia. After some time, the communities should form and provide a good resource for information and discussions. I’m wondering if these new wikia sites will be patrolled by the same truth-keepers of Wikipedia fame.
We are now witnessing more and more internet communities forming as we are moving through Web 2.0. Now to stay competitive on the internet, you have to have user-submitted content of some sort, either by forums, or comments on articles. I’m wondering how these sites will change in the third generation of the web. I imagine that more 3D virtual spaces will open up like Second Life. How do think the internet will change when Web 3.0 rolls around? I hope we get a 3D space for GayGamer Castle, where we can have saucy launch parties and dance around the maypole. A man can dream, can't he?
