Opoona: Koei’s New Wii RPG

The Wii has been seriously lacking some RPG support. The system has been out for four months and we haven’t even heard of a standard Japanese RPG for the system, until now.
Koei has recently announced Opoona for the Wii. The development team reads like an RPG all stars team, with former Dragon Quest art designer, Shintaro Majima leading the art design group. Fellow Dragon Quest colleague Sachiko Yukimura is the planning director and the composer for all of the Ivalice Final Fantasy titles, Hitoshi Sakimoto will be composing the music for the game.
The game will follow the story of Opoona. While traveling with his family, they all get in a terrible accident. His parents end up in the hospital, and he gets separated from his brother and sister. Eventually they reconvene for some good old school RPG party action, while they get down to the bottom of the mysterious circumstances surrounding their accident.
Opoona will not control like any other Wii game available now, apparently you will only be using the left nunchuk to control the action. Everything from the menus to the action will use the left-handed control scheme. The game looks like it has a really cute art style with cell shaded main characters on simply poly backgrounds. Any Wii RPG fanboys and girls should keep an eye on this game as it develops.
