Phantom Hourglass GDC Trailer
To be completely honest, I can't really think of anything other than the Super Mario Galaxy footage released yesterday. The game just looks like a blast, and the ease with which Mario flits around accomplishing tasks seemingly effortlessly filled me with joy at being a gamer today.
Since I can't find anything to write more about that game, I'll turn to the latest entry in another Miyamoto "legend", The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Super Timsy already wrote a great and in-depth article about the game as seen from the GDC conference floor, so if you want the details, that's a good place to start. But nothing quite communicates a game like some actual footage, which I'm pleased to present.
I'm very excited for this game because it uses the Wind Waker cel-shaded stylings that I so enjoyed and seems to have elements of the classic Link to the Past in it as well. Usage of the stylus seems the name of the game here and it looks like fun, rather than a chore. My favorite though? There's a ship, and like Wind Waker, it looks like you can sail from island to island shooting down sea monsters in your path with a cute lil' cannon! This might be controversial, since a lot of people disliked the boating elements in Wind Waker, but I thought it was great, freeing fun and never seemed to get enough of it. But that's a pirate for you, matey. Plus, it looks to have been simplified with the use of the stylus.
What kind of crappy games would we all be playing if Miyamoto-san was never born??
