R.I.P. Leroy Jenkins
On February 24, 2007, a legend passed: Leroy Jenkins. The real Leroy Jenkins. Not the crazy World of Warcraft player, whose infamous act immortalized him in a Jeopardy question (it’s spelled “Leeroy” anyway) -- and not even the real-life person who plays that character. I’m talking about his namesake, the renowned jazz musician:
Leroy Jenkins was arguably the most pivotal free-jazz violinist of the ’60s — internationally renowned for both his compositional and improvisational skills and vision in merging jazz and blues with a European classical sensibility — longtime AACM member Leroy Jenkins passed away Saturday, Feb. 24 in New York. Several sources report lung cancer as the cause of death. Jenkins was 74.
Yeah, that guy. So to honor the death of the real Leroy Jenkins, here again is the video that (for better or for worse) made Leroy Jenkins a household name.
