Sony's Brave New World: Sony Home Video

There's something to be said for sitting back and watching what works for the competition and then creating your own version. That is exactly what Sony has done with the release of their new free community system, Home, which debuted to much fanfare at yesterday's GDC. You can read Tiny's coverage of it here and you can watch the following video to see Home in action. It looks pretty impressive and the graphics are of course, gorgeous. As Tiny mentioned, one can't help but draw comparisons to Second Life, but it looks far more interesting and plush than SL could ever hope to be.

What do you think of Sony's big announcement? Will it be enough to pull them out of the hole they seem to have dug for themselves recently and rival the already established communities of the competition? Game 3.0, as they are dubbing it, may just be the thing that finally turns the PS3 into a force to be reckoned with.

Be sure to tune in throughout the day for Tiny and Boy of Tommorow's continuing coverage of GDC '07 including today's keynote speech by Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto!

I think it sounds pretty snazzy! It's the first news to come from Sony in a looooong time that I actually can get excited about! Add to that LittleBigWorld and I start to overlook some of the past stupidity. Of course there is still that price tag of $600.00 Playstation Home, while snazz-tastic, is still not worth $600.00

I think this is not only something to get more people interested in the system. (by the time it comes out there should be more solid games for it as well. Right now there's pretty much only Resistance and VF5) but also something to give to current owners to tide them over until more interesting things come about.

Now if only VF5 had online play.. I could create my own dojo, screw and apartment :p

Overall, I'm pretty excited. Finally an online apartment like EQ II without having to play some silly MMO to get it :)

But I'm envisioning a bunch of 8 year old kids with microphones and user downloaded content. Not fun. All I can see is a bunch of pictures of middle fingers and a whole lotta cussing.

After seeing the video, I am a bit disappointed. Where's the cosplay? I don't want to play "me" on line, I want to be Vaan or Solid Snake or .... Hopefully they'll add moogles soon.

I can't stand it. More annoying crap

Give me live with it's quick and clean interface. Why do I need to decorate anything? It's just stupid

I'm sure it'll be a huge success, despite the 8 year olds holding public concerts of the word "poopie", and with the throngs that'll be there it'll be so much harder to mute them.

Every annoyance on Live, now with showing off and selling morons designer clothes and furniture for their avatar, and nonsense "apartment"

Anytime you give users the ability to customize their online stuff with personal content, you're gonna get some people who abuse it. Same with the Live Vision cam when it came out.

I think this feature looks like it could seriously kick a lot of ass if Sony does it right. I can't wait to decorate my own apartment with my artwork.

I'll say the same thing I said when Second Life showed up.... I liked this 10 years ago when it was called "Alphaworld" and was free.
