S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Stalking Its Way To The Presses

THQ have announced that their upcoming FPS, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, has gone gold and is headed to the presses, where it will eventually be shipped out to gamers everywhere March 20, 2007. This is what the game is about:
In 1986, the world's most horrific nuclear disaster took place in Chernobyl. After subsequent unexplained explosions in 2006, a military exclusion zone is set up preventing access to the area. Stories of huge anomalous energy disturbances and sightings of strange creatures within the Zone are widespread. Players assume the role of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R., a mercenary paid by scientists and other undisclosed groups, who is trying to regain his memory.
While it may sound exciting, footage of the game gives it the appearance of being a little...aged. It just doesn't look as great as games should look right now, or maybe it is just my tired eyes playing tricks on me. I'll give it the benefit of a doubt and will wait until the actual game comes out to pass further judgment...but really, it does look "old." For the full press release followed by some gameplay footage, make the jump.

It looks aged because they've been pushing back the release date for years.
Yes, we have been waiting for this one for 5 or 6 years and who can complain when the MSRP is $39.99. It's supposed to be a HUGE free roaming game like Oblivion and the physics still look phenomenal. Have I sold everyone on buying it yet? :]
This one has been pushed back for years and years now.. It actually doesn't look as bad as one would think.
From the vids it looks around the level of Half Life 2 or possibly a little earlier.
If they had tried to catch up with graphics now it probably would have been pushed back again and then they'd never catch up and it'd turn into another duke nukem forever.
Although, PREY did have the same issue and they managed to get the graphics up to par and release it. Ah well.
I might get this, because I really like the film... (Obviously they're a LITTLE BIT different.)
Still. I'm getting fed up with FPS games at the moment, they all seem rather grey and bland.
It doesnt look that bad by most game standards. Its all about gameplay anyway. I'll give it a shot and see for myself. Microsoft is still trying to push Halo 2 on us with 'improved' graphics... thats still look like 2001 but if it plays it plays!
