Yuji Naka: All New IPs

Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog and Nights, explains in a recent interview that he only wants to work on new IPs with his newly formed studio, Prope. So there is no chance that he is working on the Nights sequel. Naka participated in a Sega program that supports designers who desire to move into independent gaming. Naka stated:
There's a support program at Sega for game designers who want to go independent, and my feelings about this program were the same as Sega's. Sega wanted me to be the first of their game creators to get involved with this program—to act as my business partner and co-operate with Prope.
This next month, Prope studios will have 26 dedicated members on their team. He staffed his company with some designers who have great industry experience, coupled with some fresh university graduates and other members who have little game industry experience. Naka is hopeful about forming the new company, he had a few choice words to say about his goals:
We're not going to be doing any ports or sequels: we only want to create original entertainment. We want to make works that have the power to fill the children of the world with dreams.
I hope he strikes gold again with some fresh blood. It is unfortunate not to see him work on the new Nights game, but I imagine that it will do well if they follow the Nights formula. After all, every fanboy out there is drooling at the thought of playing another Nights title.
