Dragon's Lair Coming To Blu-Ray
Dragon's Lair has made for some of my fondest childhood memories. With the amount of time and money I spent courting Dirk the Daring and helping him in his adventures, you could almost say he was my first boyfriend. I would rush to the arcade after school and on weekends just so I could get some alone time with him and woe be to the person who tried to manhandle him in my absence. Being as young and uncoordinated as I was at that time, I could never finish the game and always seethed with jealousy whenever I saw someone get further with Dirk than I did. One thing that stands out in my mind the most, though, is the time I watched someone beat the game and got to see the ending. A large group of people had gathered and when the final scene played, the whole crowd erupted into cheers.
Now, distributer Digital Leisure is bringing Dirk into the next generation. On April 9, a brand new, digitally remastered HD 1080p version of the game will be coming out on Blu-Ray for use on PS3 and Blu-Ray players. Also included are interviews with creators Don Bluth, Gary Goldman and Rick Dye and a full length "director's commentary" of the game. Digital Leisure also plans on releasing follow ups Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp and Space Ace in the Blu-Ray format as well.
I can't wait to see Dirk in full HD and Surround Sound and relive those days of standing around in my Dolphin shorts, trying desperately to reach the end. Hopefully, the years of video gaming that have passed through my nimble fingers since then will allow me to finally finish the game and bring Dirk to his happy ending. Then I will stand with a tear in my eye as I watch my dashing hero ride off into the sunset with the beautiful Princess Daphne. I hate that bitch.

Anyone remember the old Serra games like Space Quest etc? Those were the best! This game was a similar style - almost makes it worth upgrading to blueray.
I am all over this for my PS3.
I absolutely sucked at this game when it came out (yes I'm that old) and a life aim would be to get through to then end... or past the first 90 seconds of the game, which is all I ever seemed to get through in my youth.
I'm putting this on my birthday list.
I don't know how many of those 'it's just pixels' idiots visit GayGamer.net, but I find that ass very inviting. Then again, I always found Dick to be quite cute.
I've owned a couple different versions of Dragon's Lair, and I think I'd pass this one up even if we already had an HDTV. But considering how many versions have been released, I wouldn't count on the high-def version being a Blu-ray exclusive for very long.
As for the cartoon lust.... meh, kinda spindly for a knight.
I think this title may have to find it's way into my collection. I, too, remember being fascinated by the arcade game as a young'n.
Not that it will matter, but did you know that Don Bluth is a latter day saint? I found that kind of weird and unexpected. He did do a Scissor Sisters video though, so i guess he's cool.
I always tried to play the game at the arcades, but could never get it to work right, the responsiveness was really slow, at least for a ten year old who doesn't know what he's doing.
Too bad I don't have a BlueRay player.
OHMIGAWD I'm still a total Don Bluth fan. Space Ace is still my favorite arcade game of all time. Can't believe DL can still crack out these reissues and make money on them -- surely there can't be that many of us nostalgia nuts out there.
