Greatest. Parody. Ever.

nintendoparodyad.jpg

I have no idea who originally created this, but I've wanted to shake their hand ever since I first saw it a while ago. The ad's imagery seems to have been a genuine creation of Nintendo, but someone went in and changed the text to make it a little more... uh... "adventurous":

There's a chill in the air this crisp autumn night but you're warm and safe in your living room, relaxing with a glass of fruit juice and a game of Castlevania. Killing vampires goes great with friends, and the closest one you have is here helping you through a tough level. You pause. There are monsters up ahead, and you're unsure of how to proceed. You turn to ask, and your eyes meet as if for the first time. Perhaps it's the high from intense side-scrolling action that only the NES can deliver, but time seems to slow around the two of you. You don't look away. You can't. There's something there, something frightening, something exciting in his eyes. It scares you, yet you must have it. Your gaze never breaks, neither does his. There will be magic tonight, but it won't all be spells and potions in fantasy lands. Tonight, there will be a new adventure.

Nintendo: Now you're playing with power.

Now, a couple of things: the game they're playing isn't Castlevania, but Castlevania II. Also, even though it's almost 20 years since when this photo was originally shot, I still want almost everything in that kid's room, including the Nintendo sweatpants.

Aww!
That's so sweet. And very hilarious.
But seriously, that's the kind of experience I would love to have had as a teenager. Oh well, maybe in a next lifetime or something like that. *sob*

Oh dear....
I actually had that in my hand yesterday. I put it out for recycling since I've had it for over 20 years. Sigh, now this is making me miss it, so I ran to check if it's still in the recycling bin and it's all gone.
sniff sniff
sigh, what a way to go.
by the way, they could have added a bit more on the Vampire sexual tension theme since the story of Carmilla or Dracula were all about "the danger's of per-marital sex." But I think it's witty the way it's carefully written, so I wouldn't change it.

Wow that ad strikes a chord in my heart. (close up on the single tear falling from my left eye)

I remember having that haircut (the Jordan Knight cut on the left) and playing Simon's Quest with my mom, the only game she ever got into.
Good times.

Homoeroticism? Maybe. But all I kept thinking was:

"Hey dude check out my controller!"

"Yeah. I got one just like it at home!"

"Does it play with NES games too?"

"Sure does."

"Awesome!!!"

I'm fairly certain that was made by Mike Fireball at Progressive Boink years ago when he was running his own site. I'm pretty sure it made the switch when he changed sites, but I don't see it there now.

It is from Progressive Boink, but it was written by me, not Mike.
