Harmonix Announces Rock Band For PS3, Xbox 360

The next title in Harmonix’s lineage of music based games has just been announced. Rock Band supports up to four players, each with their own peripheral. There will be a lead guitar, bass guitar, drum kit and a microphone controller. If you do not have enough room at your place for a full four piece band, no worries, worldwide online support is key to the new game.
No word has been released concerning tracks for the new game, but we do know that Harmonix is working with MTV for the first time after the aquisition. Consequentially the game’s music should come from the original artists now, instead of crappy cover artists. By the way, who allowed that guy to butcher Freebird on Guitar Hero 2? If I ever see him, we will have words. You don't mess with Skynard man, you just don't. I would really like to see an online ranking system where players can shop around for other players in their band. You could check out the stats and accomplishments of the different players, so you could gather a superband, hellbent on destruction. Also we are wondering if 360 and PS3 players will be able to play with each other online. Could this be the first cross-compatible online game between consoles? Hopefully, but I’m not holding my breath.

It'll be hard to find a lot of songs that are evenly matched on the guitar and bass side of things. Shame they're not doing a keyboard controller, though the guitar (and no doubt, bass and drum) controller is already a dumbed-down keyboard.
Mtv, oh phedge, that hurts. This is going to be rock band: my chemical romance edition. I mean, the song list on guitar hero 2 amazed me, I mean, everytimeidie? I was sold after I heard about them being on there, and another kudos for not picking every popular song from every popular band ever and choosing ones that people haven't all heard 300 times on their mix cds yet.
So here's hoping that the XBox Live Lobby isn't like real life, where there are 800 guitarists, 5 drummers, and like... 1 singer.
I kinda see that happening, here's hoping Rock Band will rock...
