NiGHTS Will Use Weather Info From The Forecast Channel

NightsBig.jpg

It has been a little over ten years since NiGHTS: Into Dreams hit the Saturn to critical and financial acclaim. After many years of fanboys beating down Sega’s door for a sequel, they caved in and are creating NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams for the Wii. Now we are scouring the interwebs for every morsel of info for this highly-anticipated title.

Sega Europe
just released a couple more details about transformation abilities, and the inclusion of info from the Forecast Channel.

Three sets of Persona masks give the player new shape-shifting abilities and more ways to explore the world.
  • Dragon mask: Transforms NiGHTS into a huge dragon and makes him resistant to wind effects.
  • Dolphin mask: NiGHTS can change into a dolphin and explore under water.
  • Rocket mask: NiGHTS takes the shape of a rocket and travels at supersonic speeds.
There are seven fantastical dream worlds to explore and the unique environments of Nightopia introduce an extraordinary, magical world unlike any other.

Wii connect 24: Exchange items with friends via the network and change the scenery according to real-world seasons using the Forecast Channel.

All of this sounds great. The various masks seem similar to abilities NiGHTS the jester had in the original game. There were contextual actions he would perform when he encountered different terrain, like growing fins when he dove under water. I’m interested to see how he will control. Will it be the same side-scrolling 3D action we’ve come to expect, or something entirely new?

The weather sounds interesting, though that could be done on the Gamecube too with the internal clock. Using online to trade items isn't very cool, I much prefer to find things on my own. They better use online for something more exciting than just that.

Glad to see they're at least taking advantage of some of the Wii's features... they've been sort of slow coming. Looking forward to checking out this game.

I wonder if the A-Life system will also be making a comeback?
