Final Fantasy IV DS Comparison Shots

It's been a quick ride for Final Fantasy IV DS - from rumored to confirmed to game-to-game screenshot comparisons in under a week. That's faster than my seventh-grade growth spurt!
It's especially cool to see how the art direction of the original game is preserved in the new 3D game - mostly because I don't think of those old 2D sprite RPGs, delicious as they were, as having much in the way of art direction to begin with. But not only are the new screens faithful to the old, even the boss battles retain a surprising amount of the original spirit: Octomamoth looks shockingly similar. And Cecil's a smokin' hottie.

I was squealing with delight when I saw those shots yesterday. Even if Cecil does look like he's walking on his tip-toes in that armor. I wonder if that makes Rosa... uneasy... about all that time he spends with Kain?
Finally a game with a script worthy of the new graphics!!! I was disappointed with 3's story, I would find myself putting it down for a couple of days and being completely unable to recall what was supposed to be going on and not really caring at all. I hope they do this with 5 and 6 as well, it would be amazing. The use of the original concept art is great, it really is how I would expect Cecil to look.

Ya know what's funny, is I never got around to finishing Final Fantasy II for the SNES (yes, yes FFIV is the real name I know). And when I was waiting for FF3DS to come out, I started replaying FF2 because I couldn't remember what I was supposed to be doing next, and it really does have a good story, it just seems kind of rushed.
I'm hoping this new version will give us a little more background on the characters and make it feel more epic instead of just using the exact same script as the original.
GASP! It's Cecil.... the way he should be. I mean yeah, he's a dark knight, but he never really looked dark as a nubby little sprite.
Now, I'm dying to see Goblez and Kain. I'm so excited about this
It looks even better than FFIII (and it has a pretty good storyline too). Wow!!!
Yeah, I wonder how far they can push the DS to. Can't wait. Simply can't wait.
Interesting....
You know what's funny to me is that in some ways I prefer the old graphics. It's clearer what is happening and they just seem "fun." I really like it when companies mix the two--using the old top down approach but creating really top notch sprites.
All that said, I remember always wanting Final Fantasy III for the SNES (it seemed to be THE hot game), but never wanting to spend the dough. I am TOTALLY confused as to which game that is in the GBA/DS lineup...
