Go!Cam Ready For Its Closeup On PSP

Now you can make pr0n on your PlayStation Pr0nable!

Sony is bringing the Go!Cam, a camera for your PSP, to Europe and PAL regions on May 16 for the wonderful price of €49.99 (£34.99 for you U.K. folks). Of the Go!Cam, Sony says it "is yet another example of how PSP is a mobile entertainment system with no limits." I would kinda like to giggle at that statement, but I'm looking at getting one soon. Anyways, based on the stats of a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, one will have the ability to take 2 1/2 hours of video and will have the capacity to store over 40,000 photos. That's a lot of photos! I, honestly, cannot see myself taking that many pictures in even 10 years, but it's nice to know that it's possible to have that kind of capacity. Though it doesn't come as that big of a surprise. If I read correctly, the camera is 1.3 MegaPixels...so the pics/vids won't really take up a lot of space, thus allowing for such a high capacity for video and pictures...but keep in mind, you need the 4GB memory stick to achieve those numbers.

As for extra features, the camera has a built in microphone for audio (duh) and you can change the direction of the camera lens vertically by 180 degrees. The Go!Cam even comes with an editing software package that lets you...you guessed it...edit photos, video and audio clips. As for how well fleshed out it is, I have no idea, but the presser did have this to say about the Go!Edit software:

Go!Edit editing software, bundled free with Go!Cam allows you to transform your PSP into a portable editing suite, letting you edit on the move. With the ability to enhance movies and photos with sounds and graphical effects, Go!Edit provides everything to make a mini masterpiece. Go!Edit also allows the option to upload creations onto the internet directly from the PSP, meaning that nothing need stand in your way to share your masterpiece with the world.

OK, so it would seem that it has quite a bit more to it than I had thought. However, it's not a compelling reason for me to get a PSP, just yet (mmm Silent Hill: Origins). In fact, I can honestly say I won't be picking up the Go!Cam, but for those of you who don't have a digital camera/camcorder, that's not a bad deal. Before I forget, you'll need to grab the PSP firmware upgrade Ver. 2.80 onwards in order to use the camera. In the meantime, tell us if you're looking forward to it or not and what you would like to see!

So when's the US release of this bad boy? I've got a port on the top of my USB that's just sitting empty, dammit.

I'm pretty excited for it, I pretty much take my PSP with me everywhere. So having a small digi cam will be nice to have since I don't have one on my phone.

meh, *shrugs* far be it for me to question the point of this device, granted there are some people without camera phones (possibly even in the UK where any self respecting schoolchild has a mobile phone).

but really, would people use their PSP in leiu of a digital/film camera... the sheer size of it! a great big (shiney) silver potrusion on the top of a sleek PSP doesnt do any favours in terms of portability/pocket size, not exactly condusive to whipping out of pocket ready for the ubiqitous Kodak-Moment (tm?)

so there may be a digital convergence slant coming on, uploading of user content via WiFi *yawns*

More importantly i think is how will this interact with the PS3?! can it be used instead of an eyeToy? Can some enterprising little misrcreant (assuming sony wont make this call itself) port everyones favourite VoIP app for videocalling using this :D

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
