Golden Compass Videogame Details Released
I'm a big fan of fantasy novels; always have been. I have absolutely no shame in going into the young adult section of a bookstore to pick up the latest dragon-laden, elf-peppered, magic wielding epic tale to hit the shelves. And one of the greatest discoveries in recent years was Philip Pullman's astounding and original trilogy, His Dark Materials.
The first book in the series, The Golden Compass, is an epic beginning to an adventure filled with memorable characters and scenes while introducing the animal familiars (daemons) unique to the series. So it's no surprise that the series is being made into films, following the success of the LOTR and Potter film adaptations. Starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green--this is no indie film. And what is a Hollywood adaptation without a hastily put together video game to go along with it?
The game has been announced by Sega of America for all of the major consoles by this year's holiday season. It will follow the film's closely--characters will bear the likenesses of their actor counterparts, and clips from the movie will also be in the game. The player can control the lovable main character Lyra and her morphing companion Pan through puzzles and mini-games through the parallel universes and strange landscapes unique to the story. It is still unclear how much fighting actually goes on in the game, but it has been reported that Iorek, the heroic armored bear, will be playable. And what's a giant armored bear without monster killing?
Stay tuned for more details.

I just know it's going to be awful, but I've waited long enough for a game with decent dæmon action that wasn't just a "faithful pet." I wonder if they'll have an insult and lying minigame like Monkey Island three...
